At Brizwest Driving School we like our learners to understand how to secure their car. This does not mean lock the car but rather render it safe for the particular situation.

When you move over to the kerb you should put the handbrake on and put the manual car into Neutral until you are ready to continue the journey.



If you intend to turn the engine off and leave the car then put the car into 1st gear. Put the car into 1st gear and fully engage the handbrake. The Manual Selector shown on the right is typical of many small cars but consult your Owners manual to see if yours is of this configuration.
