At Brizwest Driving School we like our learners to understand how to secure their car. This does not mean lock the car but rather render it safe for the particular situation.

When you move over to the kerb you should put the handbrake on and put the car into Park until you are ready to continue the journey.

If you intend to turn the engine off and leave the car then the same configuration applies. Put the car into Park (P) and fully engage the handbrake. The Auto gear selector in your car may be different to the one in the picture on the right so consult your Owners Manual for your particular configuration.
